How to Work with Your Doctor
Make sure your doctor knows that you and/or your children were exposed to the Flint water during the crisis.
Talk with your child's doctor about potential lead exposure and have blood lead levels checked.
Ask your child's doctor or primary care provider about the AGES AND STAGES Questionnaire for young children. The questionnaire may also be provided by your child's preschool teacher or child care provider. It is a screening tool that parents can use to identify the stages of child development. Developmental and Behavioral Health Screening tools for older children should also be part of Well Child visits with your primary care provider to help identify areas of concern that need follow up.
Take your child to his/her routine Well Child Visits. When your child's doctor or primary care provider is able to see your child regularly, developmental delays will be identified more quickly. Your child will be referred for services more quickly.
